How can the DVLA Rep help me?

The Club’s DVLA Rep is recognised by the DVLA as an authoritative source of information about Standard Cars.

When you buy a Standard car it is important to ensure it comes with as much documentation as possible, such as:

- Current or historical Registration documents
- Previous MoTs
- Purchase invoices

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is the body responsible for managing Vehicle  Registration matters in the UK. Their records have been computerised since 1983, and this can cause issues if the vehicle that you have purchased as a "barn find" has not been on the road recently.

If it is not in their database, it doesn't formally exist!

If a buyer has acquired the car without documentation, it is sometimes possible to get satisfactory documentation from original local vehicle registration records when they have been preserved. Even when they have been preserved, they don’t always have sufficient information for the DVLA, but this route has had several successful outcomes in retaining original registration numbers.

To register a Car in the UK, you require as a minimum, a Computerised V5c, which proves that the car is already known to the DVLA. If you have an older paper V5 or other documentary evidence, the DVLA Rep will try to assist you through the V765 Scheme  (read about the scheme by clicking the link) using Standard Motor Company records if available. He will guide you to filling-in the forms and they should be returned via him for endorsement. The DVLA will then usually take the car onto their system.

This description is the simplest manner in which the process can be achieved, but the Rep. will help if difficulties arise.

If you are unable to produce documents, or the car has been separated from its original registration, it will be impossible to retain the original registration and the DVLA will insist on issuing an Age-related registration.

There is a small charge for the basic service but the representative will also need to charge expenses, if, for example, travelling is required to inspect a vehicle or other expenses are incurred.

The Club's representative is David Groom  who can be contacted by email at dg1552@aol.com and by telephone on 01664 823047.
