Bank Holiday Monday saw the Chiltern Group of the Standard Motor Club arrive at Quainton Station near Waddesden. This was our first appearance at their “Autofest”. The sun was trying to shine but we were plagued by a biting wind for most of the day.
Phil and Lynda Homer’s Super 10 made the 35 mile trip from St. Albans in just over an hour. We arrived at roughly the same time as the Lockley brothers in the Vanguard Estate, ably assisted by your Editor Steve O’Hara as 2nd Navigator. A car full of train enthusiasts then.
Steve George brought his Standard 8 from Arlesey near Bedford. The lineup was joined by Chris Underwood in his rare Standrive 8 from Wingrave. Chris is in his 49th year of ownership of his Standard.
Next to arrive was Roger Barnes from Harpenden in his Basic 8 and last but not least, Peter and Christine Pearce in their immaculate Vanguard Phase II.
The Club’s pitch was immediately next to the Tesla Owners Club UK – remarkable what qualifies as a Classic Car these days.
The Tesla Owners, as Classic owners, like all of us, enjoyed free Entry to the site and free Steam Train rides all day. Lots of interest in our cars from Joe Public.
With a Museum and lots of exhibits on site it made for a super day out, and one we shall repeat in future years. Could you join us on Bank Holiday Monday?
