The Standard Big 9 that David saved and restored as the Club’s founding member
David Hanson, a Founding and Honorary member of the Standard Motor Club, died suddenly in hospital on Friday 5th August after a short illness. He was 78 years old.
In January 1974, David along with a group of other stalwarts were responsible for founding the Standard Motor Club or to put it correctly, The Standard Register Trust, as it was called until 1979. David Hanson, supported by his wife Sally, was responsible for coming up with the ideas and getting the whole thing off the ground.
They organised the initial meeting in Coventry in January 1974 when those present paid the first year's subscription of £1 each and membership numbers were issued in order of the receipt of the £1 subscription. David Hanson was therefore Club Member number 1.
The Club has subsequently grown and is shortly to issue Membership number 8000. David was delighted to see its progress.
David lived with Sally in West Wales.
The whole Club sends their condolences to Sally and her family. David is gone but not forgotten.
