New Forest Group
The New Forest Group had their first event of 2022 with 'Drive it Day' on the 24th April.
In fact, the first since 2019 thanks to Covid 19 lockdowns.
On a bright sunny morning, 28 cars ventured out including 6 Standards greeted by Alan and Dave who directed them to the signing on desk inside the pub where they could obtain their route (This year being planned by Alan and Derek and included the New Forest and Lyndhurst).
At the bar, delicious bacon butties and coffee were on sale. A collection bucket for Wessex Heart charity soon gained many notes as donations.
Some drivers booked Sunday roast for their return.
We had hoped for 60+ cars but illness, petrol costs and electricity hypes deterred some owners.
Darrell had brought his Vanguard Luxury 6 for its first proper outing since major work on the head etc. He was joined by Josephine.
Darrell in fact joined Alan in his 1936 Salmon bodied Sunshine 10/12 coupe as navigator followed by Dave Salter in his 1934 Tickford bodied Standard 10 and Derek in his Standard 10 saloon while some of the ladies soaked up the atmosphere in the Luzborough Pub till drivers returned for their roast.
A big thank you must go to the Staff and management of the Luzborough.
Chiltern Group
Two members of the Chiltern Group of the Standard Motor Club went on a short tour to celebrate the FHVCC Drive it Day.
Phil and Lynda set of from St. Albans in their 1956 Standard Super 10, Stephen George from Arlesey in Beds., in his 1955 Standard 8.
They converged to meet at the "White Horse" at Southill, near Biggleswade. A splendid roast Lamb lunch was in order, followed in Steve's case by Brownie and Ice Cream, and by mixed Ice-creams for Phil and Lynda.
The sun shone brightly on a warm day and we sat in the pub garden for our meal.
What more can you demand from a spring-time Classic Car outing?

Stephen George and Lynda Homer, with their Standards.
The combined age of the two cars is 133. Don't ask the ages of the owners!
