The Golden Jubilee Rally 2024 - Day 1

By the time we arrived at the “Milestones” Museum in Basingstoke, there was already a long lineup of Standards parked opposite the entrance and making a splendid display.

The best way of describing this museum is a collection of houses, shops and artifacts displayed under a huge cantilever roof. Our chairman was there handing out the rally boards to fix to the cars, the printed programmes and our lapel badges to gain discount entry to all the venues over the weekend.

We last visited this fascinating museum over 20 years ago and much has been done to improve and enhance it in the meantime. There can be little doubt that the Pub serving real ale was a major attraction.

The 15-mile afternoon run back to the hotel was assisted by the guided route in the programme, over quiet country roads.

The Evening buffet started with a little set-back, the hotel for some reason had not set out enough tables and chairs for the size of our buffet party of 85 members. Fortunately, the Maitre d’ and his staff acted quickly to remedy the situation, so diners were not left waiting for too long. The open plan seating allowed members old and new to mingle with others and conversations went on long into the evening and into the bar later.
